Myspace is…back?

Maybe Justin Timberlake and friends weren’t so crazy after all.

Myspace, the once dominant social-networking site that faded into obscurity during Facebook’s rise to dominance, added 1 million new users over the past month, according to the company.

The new owners, most notably pop star/actor Timberlake, have effectively stopped trying to compete with Facebook and other social sites, instead focusing on Myspace’s superior platform for posting and listening to music.

Amazon no match for Lady Gaga fans

Did you want Lady Gaga’s new album for 99 cents? You’re not the only one. Just ask Amazon.

The online retailer – which offered the special price for just one day – experienced such a high volume of traffic that by early Monday afternoon the company’s servers stalled, and many users were unable to download or listen to the album in full.

The discount price, btw, was widely seen as a way for Amazon to promote its new Cloud Drive service, which allows users to store music files on remote servers and stream them over the Internet to their computer or smartphone.

But did Amazon permanently lose its music cred with customers?

”People are having a headache for one dollar,” said Tamara Conniff, a former editor of Billboard who is the founder of TheComet.com, a music news and opinion site. “They’d be willing to try it again for another dollar. Full price is another story.”
